The first result I looked at was Starbucks. I remember my friend texting me the day after I put them out saying that most of them are gone. The picture on the top left is the day after. I would say 1/3 of the pins were gone. The second picture is probably after a few days since then, and only three remain. I stopped in recently and the box and the sign were gone. I hoped that was because there were no more pins left. The final picture is my friend Gwen who works at Starbucks wearing one of my pins. I was hoping she would put the word out by wearing it and the pins would gain more traction.

This picture is from King Library and only 5 buttons remain. I also went to Armstrong and there was no trace of the buttons, so the same thing happened with Starbucks I hope that people took the buttons. Overall I was very happy with only having 5 buttons remaining after I made 109. I hope that most people also got the message after just looking at the sign and the pins. If they didn't get it I hoped they scanned the QR code and read my overview and took my survey.

The picture above is what the survey looked like when you scanned the QR code. If you aren't able to see it I gave a summary that reads, "Thanks for taking a pin! For my portfolio piece, I am subverting the way we typically think about how we consume media. All of the pins are from vintage LIFE Magazines that went out of business because the cost to print was too high. Let me know your thoughts below on print media and how you consume media. Thanks!" I then just asked 4 questions that ask, "How do you consume news/media?" "Why did you pick up a pin today?" "How much do you care about print media?" "How often do look at the news and what is happening around you?" I thought this would just give a good overview of my audience and their thoughts on media. Even though I didn't get a lot of responses I think it is clear that people live so fast and people like their information fast. So it makes sense that social media is a popular resource for getting news. I even get news from there because it is already built into my feed. I was surprised that 3/5 people read newspapers, I was expecting no one would read them. I think this has to do with the fact that Miami makes them so accessible all over campus. By far though the news app was the most used form of receiving media. I don't find this too surprising, I am just glad that people are reading the news. It also shows by the bar charts that most people care about news and print media. Overall, I am pleased with how many people took my pins. I definitely would've liked to see more responses to my survey. Since I didn't get a lot of responses on my survey I interviewed my roommate.
Interview with Gracie Grady
What does print media mean to you?
To me, print media is a really effective and traditional way to preserve things that are happening in our lives and our society. As well as to allow for the news to be portrayed in an artistic since. Print media to me is art.
Why do you think it is important to have print media?
I think it is important to have print media because having physical archives of what happens in our world is important to history. I think that it is also a really good way for people to showcase their skills in an artistic sense. People need to have media literacy, and print media and digital media are two different things, even if it is the same content I think that the way people digest it is different.
Do you consume print media? If so what kinds?
Yes, I read the New York Times paper most days, as well as the USA Daily. I also read physical books.
What did you think of my portfolio piece of the pins?
I really liked it. I also liked the slogan “If you are not going to read it wear it,” it was very catchy, and I liked that you used a piece of print media that had been discontinued so people would’ve never seen the content without you making the pins.
How do you think we can revive print media? And if you think we can?
I definitely think that we can. I think that a lot of why people consume certain types of media, in our modern culture, is due to how it’s marketed to them online. So, I think that if print media was marketed as something accessible more people would use it. A lot of people don’t know that you can go to the store and get a newspaper and the different ways to access it. That is a big reason why people have stopped because it is a lot easier to open it on your phone than to read an actual physical newspaper.
